Fort Macon State Park
Relax on this perfect stretch of coast, with enough swimming, surfing or beach combing to fill the whole day. Almost entirely surrounded by water, its beaches, salt marshes and dune fields dominate the park. A delicate ecosystem is in operation here, and as you wander around you'll notice a wide variety of flora and fauna, which is celebrated at the superb coastal education centre.
Fort Macon
This immaculately restored Civil War-era fort is the site of cannon and musket demonstrations that bring the fort to life. Take a guided tour to discover its unique features, which include original firearms, and a restored officer's mess and soldiers' quarters.
Oceanana Pier
Atlantic Beach's only fishing pier, Oceanana is a nearly 1000 feet long and a superb place for fishing, as well as strolls up and down. From here you can enjoy the ocean's shifting moods while fishing for bass, grouper and shrimps in season. Oceanana Pier House sells fishing tackle and accoutrements, supplying all you need to land a monster!

Follow the Hoop Pole Creek trail and learn about the fascinating varieties of wildlife that inhabit this part of the coast, from herons to seabirds, seals to shrimp. Come and bag yourself an oyster, or even enjoy some live music at one of the regularly scheduled special events which take place throughout the year.
