Steeped in history
A triple-arched stone bridge built in 1603 is the village's most photographed spot. This is Baslow's only bridge that hasn't been destroyed in a flood. Look out for the tiny but distinctive toll house. A big attraction is a glass case with a whip used to chase dogs out of St Anne's Church. In Baslow, keep your eyes peeled for the large weathered gritstone called Eagle Stone that young boys were required to scale before marrying.
Baslow is an ideal base from which to explore the gritstone edges of Curbar and Froggatt which offer expansive views of the moorlands and valleys. Families with kids and recreational hikers will enjoy the relatively easy Derwent Valley Heritage Trail. The wild and desolate landscapes of Dark Peak are unmissable as are the ancient woodlands and wildlife at Linacre Reservoirs.
