This is the capital city of Croatia. St Mark's Church and the Croatian National Museum are important attractions. The Museum of Broken Relationships is rather unique, displaying personal objects belonging to ex-lovers. The old part of town is very picturesque and walker-friendly. Nearby, in Plitvice, you'll find the 16 Plitvice Lakes, linked by waterfalls and mountains, which are a popular attraction despite the unpredictable weather.
You might need two days here. Zadar's modern waterfront is a special attraction in this ancient city with its churches and scattering of Roman ruins. The streets from the town to the waterfront are made of marble, and are reserved for pedestrians. Zadar also has a very vibrant nightlife!
Krka National Park is home to over 800 species of flora and fauna. The Skradinski Buk waterfalls feed natural pools - a very popular spot for swimmers. The caves, lakes and trails in the park provide much to explore for the more adventurous souls.
Two days here would be a good idea. This is a cruise ship port, and a good place from which to travel to some of the nearby islands. The Roman emperor Diocletian built his palace here. It is known to be truly awe-inspiring, and is surrounded by many Roman, Renaissance and medieval buildings. Hop over from here to Brac, an island boasting the magnificent, unspoilt Zlatni Rat beach. The beach offers various water sports, as well as a relaxing time, communing with nature. There are quaint villages on the island, well worth a visit. Brac itself deserves maybe three days in your road trip.
You will need two to three days to do Dubrovnik justice. Dubrovnik has grown enormously in popularity since the filming of Game of Thrones, but, despite the crowds, it has managed to retain its character. (There are many Game of Thrones tours on offer.) A walk along the 2 km of ancient walls provides a good view of the city. Sea kayaking tours are also available, allowing a very different view of a special city.
