Inhabited since prehistoric times, Collioure was the main trading port of the Mallorcan empire for many years. The town played an important role in the Fauvist movement, visited by Derain, Braque, Dufy and Pablo Picasso among others. Moulin de Collioure

This amazing mill that has survived from the Middle Ages is located on the hills on the side of the creek that flows from Perpignan. It was operational right up to the nineteenth century for grinding grain and is now used to press the olive oil needed for producing Collioure's famous olive oil.

The Royal Castle

The original castle on this site dated to 981 and was built by the Counts of Roussillon under the rule of Aragon. The present castle is still a thousand years old and was used by several generations of royals who traded throughout the Mediterranean and even further afield. The mysterious group of the Knights Templar integrated a new castle into the old as far back as 1345, so this ancient edifice boasts a star-strewn and exotic history.

Église Notre Dame des Anges

Another cultural landmark is the church in Collioure, a spectacular structure right over the water which offers wondrous views from its turreted nave. Built in 1684, this distinctive building merges with the lighthouse on this spot, which was later covered with the cupola you can see today. Its many chapels are dedicated to a wide variety of saints.
