Coventry culture and heritage

The Herbert Museum and Art Gallery is the place to go in Coventry if you want to learn about the region's heritage and culture.

As well as exhibits on local archaeology and the industrial history of the Midlands, the Herbert Museum also features paintings and sculptures - including many inspired by Coventry's most famous daughter, Lady Godiva, who was rumoured to have ridden through the streets of the city naked.

A few miles from the city centre, you can visit the historic mansion of Baddesley Clinton, a 500-year-old medieval house and gardens.

Fun for all the family in Coventry

Kids will enjoy spending the day at the Coventry Transport Museum, which features exhibits on cars and motorbikes, many of which were built in factories in the Midlands. The museum is also home to the Thrust vehicles, the world's two fastest cars. If you are lucky with the weather, head for Allesley Park, where young children can play in the adventure playground or just enjoy a walk in the gardens.

Visit Coventry Cathedral

One of Coventry's best-known visitor attractions is the city's cathedral. The original 14th c. church was sadly destroyed by bombs during the Second World War, but a new 20th c. cathedral was opened in 1962.

Two crosses, one made of two old roof beams and another built from nails that had fallen from the roof after the bombing, can still be seen in the new Coventry Cathedral, as another link to the past.
