The Heritage Centre at The Almonry is a 14th century structure which was home to the Abbey’s Almoner. It houses artefacts and details about the history of the Abbey and the Battle of Evesham. In the vicinity is the famous Bell Tower, which stands like a majestic reminder of the Abbey’s glorious past.

The Battle of Evesham was led by Simon de Montfort in 1265 to overthrow the autocratic monarchy. De Montfort lost his life in the ensuing battle, but the Abbey monks buried his body parts in front of the Abbey altar which is now the Simon de Montfort Memorial.

Fun and frolic at festivals

Evesham is renowned for its asparagus, and this majestic vegetable is the main attraction at the British Asparagus Festival, which runs from May to early June. Local growers donate their asparagus harvest, which is auctioned at the courtyard of the Fleece Inn.

Every year in July Evesham hosts the River Festival, which sees boats mooring along River Avon, next to the Workman Gardens. The illuminated boats and fireworks are the main attractions of the festival.

Relax and rejuvenate amid nature

Abbey Park, on the north side of River Avon, hosts fairs, circuses, and boating and fishing competitions. The park has many horticultural attractions including a stunning lily pond. It has a play area for children, boating opportunities, and a variety of artwork.

The Waterside Gardens is situated in a more peaceful corner of the river. Also known as the Workman Gardens, you can enjoy a game of pétanque and table tennis. Alternatively, you can take leisurely strolls along the river. The garden has a spellbinding wildflower meadow that will re-energise you.
