Gili Air accommodations lie on the beach and are mostly Joglos, a traditional semi-open wooden house. Gili Air is the most laid-back destination of the three Gili Islands and accessible via speedboat from Lombok and Gili Trawangan. Motorised vehicles are prohibited on Gili Air, but visitors can explore the small island by cidomo (a small horse-drawn carriage), by bike or on foot. It only takes an hour to explore the whole island.

Gili Air's specialities are influenced by Lombok's culinary scene. Try the freshly grilled seafood in banana leaves with a sea view at Warung Sasak. Complement your fish with the traditional Indonesian 'balisuso', a cone shaped steamed rice wrapped in banana leaves.

Food is usually spicy as Indonesians eat fish with 'sambal', a mix of onions, shallots and chilli while meat is served with peanut and chilli sauce. Don't leave without trying Nasi Goreng – the country's national dish.

Gili Air is part of an island complex known as the Gili Islands. Each island has its own particularity. Hop on a speedboat to discover the big and cosmopolitan Gili Trawangan with its infamous beach parties, including the Blue Marlin rave party. Gili Meno, the smallest of the three, is the least developed and most popular amongst honeymooners for its tranquil white sand beaches and luxury holiday rentals.

Gili Air is known for its crystal-clear waters, very rich marine life and year-long underwater visibility. Divers from around the world come for those pristine waters and to encounter majestic manta rays, sea turtles and tropical fish.

Waters are also shallow enough for you to snorkel around the island and try to spot sea turtles. If you're feeling brave enough, Gili Air offers plenty of sites for freediving, a breath-hold diving along a rope, in warm and calm waters.
