Useful information for your visit to New Street Station
Whether you have a few hours to kill making a connection via the station, or are staying nearby and using the station for your onward journey, plan ahead to get the most out of your visit. It's a busy station, with around 5 million passengers passing through each year.

1. Station facilities
Unlike many other stations, Birmingham New Street is a 24 hour operation. The ticket office and information centre is open 24 hours a day Monday to Saturday and from 7.30am on Sunday. The station also has left luggage, cash machines, waiting rooms and a range of retail outlets.

2. Shopping
The recent redevelopment of New Street has brought many well-known retail and restaurant brands into the station. Grab a burger at Five Guys, pick up travel essentials at Boots, or treat yourself to a gift from Hotel Chocolat before catching your train.

3. Getting there
If you are departing from New Street Station, public transport is the best and easiest way of getting to the station. There is no parking within the station but cars and taxis are allowed to drop passengers off in Hill Street. By bus, take any route passing through Hill Street or Smallbrook Queensway. There are bike racks for 120 bikes at the station's Hill Street entrance.

If you have time between your trains at Birmingham New Street, then take the opportunity to get out of the station and explore some of these locations, all of which are close at hand in Birmingham city centre.

1. The Bullring
Birmingham's Bullring, which is very close to the station, is one of the UK's premier shopping centres. The centre is home to over 200 different retailers, from large department stores like Selfridges to smaller, independent outlets.

2. Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery
Entry to this museum is free and the collection includes the best examples of Pre-Raphaelite art anywhere in the world. Also worth seeing is the spectacular Staffordshire Hoard, the largest collection of Anglo-Saxon gold ever found.

3. National Sea Life Centre
One of the UK's largest aquariums, the Sea Life Centre takes you under the waves and into the world of the ocean. The centre is home to over 2000 creatures, with a fully transparent underwater tunnel allowing visitors to get up close with the tank's inhabitants. Book in advance to secure your ticket, especially at peak holiday times.
