Castello Aragonese Taranto

Located on the tiny island of Isola Del Borgo Antico, this fortress is over 1000 years old and was once used to protect against the Saracens and the Republic of Venice. Ferdinand II of Aragon commissioned the expansion of the fortress to its current size but it fell into disuse until Napoleon Bonaparte reinstated it.

Basilica San Nicola in Bari

This historic basilica once housed relics of the saint after whom it was named, attracting pilgrims from across Europe. The first of its kind in Apulia, for a 1000 years San Nicola has been the model for numerous sacred buildings in the region.

Historic centre of Lecce

This baroque city centre is one of the masterpieces of southern Italy. Cherubs flutter across its stone frontages, which date from the 17th Century. The town's patron saint, Sant'Oronzo, looks down on the Piazza Sant'Oronzo from a tall pillar marking the end of the famed Appian Way. The Piazza del Duomo is a place of tranquility bordered by the cathedral.

Cattedrale di Trani

Overlooking the ocean, this incredible cathedral was founded a 1000 years ago and is still a centre for the local community. Constructed from pale limestone, the Romanesque building is impressive and it has a magnificent atmosphere.

The Trulli of Alberobello

A Unesco world heritage site, the city of Trulli is a city like no other. With origins in the shepherds huts on the hills of this verdant valley, its incredible white limestone buildings are topped with cone-shaped stone roofs. No mortar was used in the construction of these traditional dwellings.
