Nestled between leafy Wimbledon and edgy Brixton, Tooting is a great place to explore in its own right and to use as a base to explore the rest of South London. Tooting is also somewhere with a truly rich history. It's been settled since the pre-Saxon times, with Roman roads passing through the area, and has remained an important cultural hub since. You'll find a whole host of activities just a stone's throw from your holiday cottage.

Curry, Classic Pub Meals, or High-Class French Cuisine

Like much of South London, Tooting has a buzzing curry scene, helped by a recent burst of gentrification that has boosted the range of accommodation, too. Our favourite Sri Lankan place is Apollo Banana Leaf. It's been in the area a while and is cheap and delicious. For meat-eaters, the devilled mutton or prawn dishes are the best options, while there's aubergine curries for the veggies.

For a traditional but high-quality English pub meal, you should try The Antelope, an old fashioned pub with a modernised grub menu. The small plates are all great, but the real standouts are the roasts at the weekend. Near any accommodation just off Mitcham Road.

On Broadway Market, you can find something a little different - the French Bordelaise. Serving everything from steaks to duck, it's a sure-fire hit.

Take a Dip or Sink Some Handcrafted Gin: What to Do Near Your Accommodation

On a hot day, one of Tooting's best attractions is the Tooting Bec Lido. The UK's largest outdoor pool filled with fresh water and more than 100 years old, it's a fabulous place to spend a hot day before heading back to your holiday cottage.

If gin's your thing, then the Graveney Gin bar is the place to go. Founded a few years ago by Victoria Christie, it's a bespoke handcrafted gin bar that has really made a name for itself. It's probably worth making sure you've got a taxi booked back to your accommodation, though!

For a night at the movies, there's the Luna Cinema, an outdoor cinema on Tooting Common that screens everything from classic hits to modern gems.
