There are also a number of farms to visit such as the Villa Rose organic farm near Kiev. The country's history and culture can be explored by adults and children alike at the Pirogovo Village, an open-air museum celebrating Ukrainian Folk Architecture, Rural Life and Folk Art.

Besides this, there are hundreds of outdoor activities available, from hiking to cycling to horse riding, wherever you are in Ukraine. There are also a number of educational experiences available for your enjoyment, including the Kiev Planetarium, the largest in Europe.

Things to see and do - hidden gems of the Ukraine

Staying in Kiev, the capital city, provides ample opportunity for discovery. The city is home to one of Europe's largest museums, the Mystetskyi Arsenal, as well as the Caves Monastery. This ancient church represents the early days of the Orthodox religion and is filled with relics and catacombs.

Further afield are world-famous sites definitely worth travelling to including the Carpathian Mountains, perfect for skiing, snowboarding and hiking. The tragic city of Chernobyl is around 2 hours from the capital, but as the most famous site in Ukraine, many visitors to the country see it as a site of great interest.

Given the country's vast landscape, there are two stunning national parks, one of which houses the Carpathian Mountains (The Carpathian National Natural Park). The other is Askania Novia, the oldest and largest steppes reserve in Europe.
