1. Sutherland, Scotland

   Fishing is one of the main attractions of Scotland and it's possible to enjoy it between Monday to Saturday at the Kyle of Sutherland. Look out for salmon, sea trout and brown trout with beautiful rolling hills in the background.

   Find exotic species across these 30 lakes which are stocked with an incredible array of fish in a purpose-built facility with family villas, guides and an indoor pool. Great for beginners and those travelling in a group.

3. Norfolk Broads

   Pick up a licence to fish the canal network for pike, roach and other native fish species. There is plenty of space, lovely views of farmed land, and plenty of country pubs for when you need a hearty lunch.

4. River Spey, Scotland

   Catch an Atlantic Salmon in one of the most famous rivers in Scotland. It's also close to some fantastic distilleries for a tipple at the end of the day, plus wonderful scenery. Even better, no license is required.

5. River Wye, Wales

   Get a sea trout and salmon licence to enjoy the fifth biggest river in the UK. It's great for fly and coarse anglers alike. Look out for large populations of barbel, trout and salmon.

6. River Test, Hampshire

   This is arguably the world's most famous river for fly fishing, and grayling and brown trout are in abundance in the managed rivers. Manicured banks make it perfect for beginners and the less mobile too.

7. Lough Corrib, Connemara, Ireland

   Visit this famous spot in May for red Corrib Trout and enjoy the festival atmosphere as the fishermen flood in to try their luck with fly fishing. Just book your accommodation in advance as it gets very busy.

8. River Moyola, Northern Ireland

   You won't believe that you're just 40 minutes away from Belfast at this beautiful rural location, with the Sperrin mountains rolling in the background. Look out for local dollaghan and brown trout and enjoy the fantastic local pubs and cafes for hearty fare.

9. River Wye, Monsal Head, Derbyshire

   Monsal Head is a wonderfully atmospheric spot to fish, with wonderful views around the gorge. When the valley begins to darken, fishing fans emerge from the winding uphill path for a welcome pint at the Monsal Head Hotel.

10. River Teifi, Wales

    There was a time when the Welsh rivers were black with pollution. Not anymore. Head to the River Teifi to catch sea trout in the dead of night and soak up the mystical atmosphere as you do.
