   This is undoubtedly the most famous and perhaps the most upmarket of the USA's ski towns. Located in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, there are four main mountains to choose from: Aspen, Aspen Highlands, Snowmass and Buttermilk. The facilities are top notch and there are also opportunities for golfing, mountain biking and hot air ballooning in the summer.

2. Keystone

   Also in Colorado, you can set up base here and ski at the Dercum, North Peak or Outback mountains. There's a great amount of varied skiing available, with a family-friendly atmosphere and opportunities for lessons.

3. Big Sky

   One of Montana's finest resorts, the area is famous for its skiing and its all-season zipline tours. The bike trails are also excellent, with everything from the Easy Rider to the very challenging Ninja Marmot trails. Whether skiing or hiking, this is a great way to appreciate Montana's stunning nature when on USA ski holidays.

4. Squaw Valley

   Located in California, Squaw Valley provides the opportunity to bike to the breathtaking Lake Tahoe. The scenic aerial tram rides offer unforgettable views, while the skiing conditions are also excellent. You can leave your children for the day in the care of the kids' day camp.

5. Sugarloaf

   Up in Maine, discover an excellent place to play golf when you are not busy skiing or relaxing in the local parks. This is another superb place to bring the family, with special events in the evenings.
