Useful information for your visit to Windsor Castle
Find out what you can see at this ancient, grand regal residence. Though still officially occupied by the family, you can visit all year round. Purchasing tickets online in advance is recommended.

1. Grand Reception Room
This was historically the hub of social activity in the castle, where balls and other large functions would be held. Expect intricate gilded furniture and fittings, and a series of magnificent chandeliers.

2. State Apartments
These are the central rooms of the castle, with amazing spaces including the Queen's Drawing Room. It's here that she can take tea and presumably one of her favourite treats, chocolate biscuit cake. The artwork in the State Apartments is exquisite, featuring works from the likes of Rubens and Van Dyck.

3. St George's Chapel
See where the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took place, in this stunning 15th century chapel on the grounds of the castle. The gorgeous stone ceiling is one thing to look out for, which was added at the request of King Henry VII. Many royals throughout history have been buried in the chapel, including the infamous Henry VIII and the third of his six wives, Jane Seymour.

1. Frogmore
Another royal residence, this one close to the castle and built in a more modern 17th century style. You can take tours at certain points of the year, so check out if it's open during your stay in Windsor. The manicured gardens are fit for royalty, and feature landmarks including the Indian Kiosk, a beautiful memorial.

2. Windsor Guildhall
This elegant building is Windsor's town hall, and is often used for weddings and other events. The Windsor and Royal Borough Museum is located here, which is well worth checking out.

3. Runnymede
It's worth a ten-minute taxi ride to this scenic water meadow, the site of the signing of the Magna Carta in the 13th century. This saw the unpopular King John sign an agreement with the English barons, giving them freedom from his unfair seizure of wealth and property. It's a legendary document that has inspired rights activists for many centuries, and the meadow is a wonderful place to go for a walk.
