Monasteries and museums
Visit the Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni, which is without doubt the most important religious building on the island. Positioned on the hill over the town of Frini, the monastery offers spectacular views of the northern side of the island and the mainland. St. Frini is the patron saint of Monastery of Lefkada.
According to local lore the monastery was built in 1634 on the site of a previous temple consecrated for Artemis, the goddess of hunting. The monastery was renovated in the 18th century, reflecting the influence of the Venetian naval forces.
