Chirk Castle, a 700-year-old fortress, still serves as a residence today. ItsThe opulent interiors include a long gallery furnished in 17th-century fashion, a 1920s-style bow room, and 18th-century saloon. Award-winning gardens cover an area of 5.5 acres and overlook the Cheshire Hills.
Check out Castell Dinas Brân, a fantastic medieval castle constructed within the foundations of an Iron Age hillfort. Thought to be built in the 1260s, it was burnt during Edward I's rule and reclaimed in the 14th century. A thousand feet high, the commanding precipice affords spectacular views of the mountains.
Meanwhile, the sublime Valle Crucis Abbey is even more romantic in its ruined state. Seeming to melt into its woodland surroundings, the Gothic abbey was built in 1200 by Cistercians, and sacked during the Dissolution of the Monasteries by Henry VIII some three hundred years afterwards.
