Weekend Breaks in Loch Lomand

Loch Lomond is the largest inland stretch of water in Great Britain. You can explore it by taking a trip on a historic steamship or, if you prefer, by canoe or kayak. With an appropriate permit, fishing is also possible.

The famous Scottish outlaw is reputedly buried in the churchyard at Balquhidder​. Located in a spectacular glen, around an hour's drive from the loch, the setting is impressive and the grave's inscription - "MacGregor despite them​" - is sure to raise the hairs on the back of your neck.

One of Scotland's most popular long-distance hiking trails, the section of the West Highland Way that runs past Loch Lomond takes in the loch's eastern shores. It offers some excellent views and fairly challenging walking. If you prefer to cycle, a number of cycle paths provide similar views and the opportunity for some strenuous exercise.

Located in Balloch, this adventure park offers a treetop aerial course that is great for active teens. A nearby aquarium and birds of prey centre offer additional activities.

A visit to one of the area's whisky distilleries is a good way to pass a rainy afternoon. Situated close to Ben Lomond, the Loch Lomond distillery​ produces a well-known Highland single malt whisky as well as grain whisky.
