Enjoy the beauty of the Highlands in a Lochaber holiday letting
Lochaber is an area in the Western Highlands which home to some of Scotland's most dramatic scenery. Explore this amazing countryside on foot or by car, or take the opportunity to visit some of the fascinating historical attractions which make this area so popular with visitors.
History and Harry Potter
Harry Potter fans and those who have a passion for steam trains will want to make the journey from Ben Nevis to Mallaig which takes in the majestic sweep of the Glenfinnan viaduct. You can also drive to Glenfinnan itself to get a view of the viaduct from below, as well as visiting the Glenfinnan Monument, which marks the location where Bonnie Prince Charlie came ashore ahead of the Jacobite rebellion. If you are lucky enough to have good weather the beaches at Mallaig and Arisaig are stunning and are famed for their silver-white sands.
Head for the hills in beautiful Lochaber
Fort William is the main town in Lochaber and is dominated by the looming presence of Ben Nevis, Scotland's tallest mountain. If you have a good level of fitness, and decent walking boots, it is relatively easy to ascend via the well-constructed mountain track but make sure you take adequate precautions against the changeable Scottish weather. There are lots of opportunities for boat trips in the Lochaber region, including the journey to the remote Knoydart peninsula which is only reachable by boat or on foot!
Enjoy typical Scottish entertainment
Several of the towns and villages in Lochaber, including Fort William, Mallaig, Arisaig and Gelnfinnan hold Highland Games every summer. The games feature typical Scottish contests including tug o' war and caber tossing as well as Highland dancing and bagpipe performances. Fort William is also famous for its mountain bike trails and hosts regular national and international competitions, including the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup.
