El Pinacate y Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve
This 700,000 hectare UNESCO-protected site comprises of a vast dormant volcano called Pinacate Shield, surrounded by the Gran Altar Desert. The mirage of shifting sands that sometimes reach 200 metres high, and the striking landscape fascinates visitors and scientists alike.
Old Port
If there's one thing you must do while you're in Puerto Peñasco, it's to spend some time in this relaxed fishing village. Nets heaving with wriggling fish are quickly served up at the sun-drunk restaurants that line the harbor. Or take some fresh fish back to your holiday letting .
Playa Bonita Beach
This aptly named beach is wonderfully clean and relaxing, with long stretches of sand and sea where you can sunbathe and swim. Soak up the rays with a cold beer before jumping on a banana boat or jet ski and making waves.
Cholla Bay
Breathtaking views await those who venture to this hideaway. The sugary soft sand attracts sunbathers, and those who enjoy superb Mexican food, which can be found at JJ's Cantina and Xochitl's Cholla Bay Café.
Isla San Jorge
Seals and dolphins play in the coves of this island, which are full of nooks and crannies to explore by snorkel or kayak. Sea lions will let you swim close by before blowing bubbles and wiggling away. Don't forget to bring your binoculars as there's are a huge variety of birds to spot.
