‘Likes: The location was perfect and it could have been a lovely cottage as full of character and lovely sitting room with log burner. Let down by the filthy tatty kitchen and dated bathroom. Dislikes: The kitchen is not fit to be used. The oven is so filthy it poses a hygeine risk. The tap is dirty, loose and wobbles about when trying to use it and the surfaces are stained, rotten by the tap and full of bacteria. Damp and chipped paint to walls. Utensils full of grease. Extractor fan a health hazard fat dripping off it plus hair and dust and filter disgusting. Washing machine not working properly and glass broken. Hob tatty. Floor generally in need of deep clean. Had to wash cutlery before using as greasy. Garden is very dangerous with slippery steps that need jet washing and flagstone steps near the top not fixed and actually slid away when stepped on. Could cause a serious accident. Bathroom. Sink tiny and shower tray dirty. Needs updating and deep clean. Bedrooms could do with new mattresses as toppers are hard and uncomfortable. Such a shame as if this property had a deep clean and updating it could be stunning. Had to scrub washing up bowl with brillo before could use it as covered in black grease not pleasant. Kitchen draining rack greasy and rusty and draining board dirty full of bacteria’

‘Likes: Wood burner with wood provided. River opposite. T. V with sky. Shower powerful and spacious. Needs good descale though. Dislikes: Bathroom sink blocked, we used plunger provided then black sludge came up. All drainage poor Kitchen poor and grimy. Tap loose /broken. Beds noisy, (even with turning over) Electric socket hanging off wall in bedroom. Very dangerous. Boiler really noisy, bedrooms too hot. Garden steep with slippy steps so difficult to use . I wish I had read previous reviews and I am surprised the issues are not being dealt with. Booking.com should speak to owner.’

‘Likes: It's quiet and secluded Dislikes: Could do with a deep clean throughout. Kitchen was greasy and filthy. Smells of old smoke as soon as you enter property. 3 star a bit optimistic. We found a few safety issues which the host has assured us are now fixed. Garden unusable as bushes overgrown. Very disappointed as property was quaint.’

‘Likes: Location was lovely and the host was very helpful and communicative. Beds were comfy. The cottage istelf is lovely However.... Dislikes: The kitchen was extremely dirty and in need of a thorough clean. Cupboards and oven filthy, kitchen tap not attached to the surface and very wobbly and there was a splatter guard hanging up (used to cover frying pans etc.), which was covered in grease! The bathroom shower screen hadn't been cleaned and the windowsill was very dusty. The loo seat wasn't fitted properly and very wonky. The room itself also had a really unpleasant smell. No sink plug. On the second morning we found water dripping from the light fitting in the sitting room, put buckets under and contacted the host about it. Obviously from the shower above.’

‘Likes: The cottage was quai t and very historic Dislikes: The radiator in the back bedroom was seized shut and a power socket was not secure on the wall. There was someone else's food in a kitchen cupboard and the kitchen surfaces were sticky. Outside the back door there is a water leak making the area to the garden very damp.’

‘Likes: The neighbours were lovely. The location is nice too but certainly driving distance to facilities. Dislikes: There is no kindle or logs provided for the log fire between April and September. I didn't know this until the first night when it was too late to go out so I missed a night of the log fire ’

‘I have used Airbnb for over a decade and unfortunately this is the first negative review I have written. The cottage looks lovely in the photos but we found that it had not been properly cleaned in a very long time. The kitchen was filthy. The floor had not been cleaned, the oven seemed to have years of dirt and grease and the extractor fan did not work and was also covered in grime. The cupboards were really dirty inside and out, pots and pans were not properly cleaned and there was dirty cutlery in the cutlery draw. there were filthy scourers left by the sink. The bathroom had dirty toilet paper that had not been flushed and the floor looked like it hadn't had a good clean in a very long time. There did look to have been some attempt at cleaning the shower and bath but they were still pretty dirty. Luckily we think the bedroom sheets had been changed and there was lots of nice towels left out to use, although we didn't use the bath or shower. There was no heating or hot water when we got there, only a very confusing hand written note by the boiler on how to get it to work. The garden is up lots of very steep steps and really dangerous if you have kids. I had traveled a long way with my partner and a toddler so we were forced to stay one night. We let airbnb and sandra know immediately and left the next morning. We took lots of pictures and even though Sandra accused us of faking the photos and Airbnb agreed the property had a "low level of cleanliness" we were not refunded. It's no fun leaving a bad review but I thought it was important to warn people. This cottage could be lovely and it's a shame we had such a bad experience.’

Lots of grease around the area of the hob. There is no fire blanket or fire extinguishers in the cottage. No fire risk assessment. Small television. Radiator not working in the rear bedroom.’
