Description

This delightful terraced cottage is situated in the Kent village of Chartham, only a short distance from Canterbury. This 19th century railwayman's cottage has been lovingly restored and beautifully furnished with lots of wooden furniture to reflect the Victorian period, including the cupboards in the kitchen. With one large, attractive double bedroom and views over the well-established rear garden, along with fields where sheep and goats graze, this Chartham cottage is the perfect choice for couples looking for a romantic break. The sunny bedroom also benefits from an en-suite bathroom, complete with a roll-top, claw foot bath; just the place for a long soak after a day exploring Canterbury, which is only three miles away. The sitting room is warm and cosy at any time of year, with its woodburner to relax in front of, or guests can enjoy dinner with a glass of wine or two and watch the evening sun disappear over the garden through the French doors. To explore Kent, this Chartham cottage is in the perfect location, with road and rail links close by, in fact the railway station is just a five minute walk away, and you can be in the heart of Canterbury before you know it, and without having to take the car! Alternatively, guests could choose to walk or cycle along the Stour Valley Walk which follows the river from Chartham all the way into Canterbury, followed by a visit to Canterbury Cathedral after lunch, a trip down the river and then can enjoy a meal in one of the many restaurants, before taking your seats at the theatre in the evening. However you choose to spend your days, this charming Chartham cottage is a wonderful place to return to.
The village of Chartham is situated perfectly for those looking to discover the countryside and the towns in north Kent. Visitors can enjoy the Farmers' Market that is held in the village hall every Thursday.

‘A quaint & characterful cottage originally built for railway staff it is not the biggest property but more than adequate, Briony the cottage owner is on hand to welcome you to the cottage with a basket of essentials. to the rear of the property is a sun trap garden with seating & quite private in its aspect. if i had any qualms regards this property it would be the two seater chesterfield which is looking a little tired.’

‘The location of the cottage was excellent for travelling around Kent. The cottage was stunning, so well looked after. Every room was beautifully decorated and the garden was lovely. It was so quiet too, giving us time to relax. We felt very pleased with our choice and will certainly be back to this charming little gem of a cottage.’

‘The cottage has been delightfully renovated. It is warm and cosy and well equipped. In spite of its proximity to the railway and a main road it is very quiet The conservatory is a particularly attractive feature. We found the bed extremely comfortable but for those wanting a softer mattress a topper is available. On arrival Brionny took us on a tour of the cottage and explained the appliances. She was friendly and welcoming. A basket of goodies was a nice touch. Pleasantly furnished this cottage has everything you need for an enjoyable break. It is ideally placed for access by bus or train to Canterbury. The Park and Ride is also nearby and is the cheapest option unless everyone has a bus pass! Within half an hour you can reach most of the attractions in this part of Kent. Sandwich was a favourite of ours. We would certainly return.’

‘We love being independent when we are on holiday, the cottage and location add to the chiilout factor. River walk to Canterbury or drive to Dungeness Point, the options for one week are up to us. The cottage has been set up thoughtfully by the owners and you spot details during your stay.’

‘A very warm welcome and clear explanation regarding where things were and how they worked. Cosy rooms, comfortable bed. Very convenient for buses, trains and as a centre to explore Kent. More than ample equipment and welcoming basket.’

‘The position of the cottage opens up excellent transport, cycling and walking links to Canterbury and much more. The quiet was surprising as road and rail links are nearby. The gated railway crossing which is manually opened and closed by the signal man adds to the village experience. If you have never visited this corner of England you will need to look a long time to do a lot better than this cottage.’

‘This cottages is ideal for couples who want a bit of peace and quiet. As it was an old railway cottage, the owners have purchased bits and pieces that tie in with the theme of it. They have fitted it out to a high spec. with plenty of kitchen equipment, it is very clean. They even provided a good selection of DVDs and candles for a romantic feel.’

‘Everything was great. Very friendly welcome by the owner. Cosy, convenient and comfortable with many thoughtful touches. Lovely garden. Really useful to have wifi for us. Stairs are quite steep, so you need to be cautious if you aren't fairly agile, though we're seniors and had no problem.’

‘The warm welcome from the owner started our holiday well. Everything is provided that you'll need. A good mix of mod-cons (dishwasher, wi-fi, "smart tv" which hooks up to the internet so you can use iplayer, itvplayer etc) but the cottage still has oldy-worldy charm (wooden floors etc). So handy for Canterbury, either walk on the river bank or catch the train from the station just over the road. Local corner shop sells everything and is open till at least 9 each evening! Spotlessly clean. Couldn't fault anything with the cottage, would highly recommend it!’
