‘Likes: The location by the river would probably be nice on a summers day. Close to the town Dislikes: Steep stairs should have handrail all the way up. There should be instructions for controlling the gas central heating. Was set to 13 C. The radiator in the ground floor toilet does not work resulting in condensation on the floor. Generally damp everywhere. The cooker hood needs cleaning or replacing. The sheets were stained. The internet had no signal. There are beds for 4 but only seating for 3. No smoke alarms that we could see. A door mat would help keep the lounge clean.’

‘Likes: Nothing. Dislikes: It was totally unclean and out of the two balconies, one was inaccessible unless you were a gymnast and one was filthy and unable to be used. The stairs up to the top bedroom were dangerous in our opinion and the upstairs toilet was constantly running. We entered the property and decided to leave straight away because we felt we could not stay there. Very disappointing.’

‘Likes: The cottage had everything we needed and in a great location. Loved sitting on the balcony listening to the river and watching the ducks. Dislikes: The steep stairs didn’t bother me but if you struggle with stairs it’s not for you.’

‘Likes: The view from the balcony off the kitchen was fabulous and the living area and bedroom areas were comfortable BUT.... Dislikes: There was no mention on the description of the stairs. The house is set over 3 floors and the stairs are very steep and uneven as they turn corners on the way up. The 2nd balcony is accessible from the middle of the stairs so much care would need to be taken by those brave enough to try it. My husband fell down the stairs injuring his knee on the first night so we cut our visit short. Also wasn't mentioned was that the terraced house is situated on a very busy road and whenever large vehicles pass it blots out the light downstairs and is incredibly noisy. The downstairs WC has no basin to wash hands and you can wave at passers by on the other side of the river as there is no blind or curtain. I had advised both the owner and booking. com that there should be a mention that the stairs are challenging but both say the other is responsible for the description of the property. If we had known about the stairs we would not have booked. My husband was lucky not to be more badly hurt.’

‘Likes: It is a proper accommodation for four persons, with a kitchen equipped with almost all necessary (no coffee machine) for self catering. Groceries at walking distance. Clean bathrooms (one, a service bathroom, on the ground floor, the second full bathroom on the second floor) and enough towels, for a short stay. A parking spot (public, free), at about 20 meters from the property. Great places to visit (seaports, hills to climb, great lakes with a lot of leisure opportunities), at driving distance (between 20 and 60 minutes). Very quiet place, and fabulous balconies, above the river. Dislikes: Some not cleaned and unmaintained spots. The mattress in the main bedroom (1st floor) could be better. The stairs are very steep - raising some difficulties for elder persons. Nothing to do in the city and very few things to do and to visit at walking distance.’

‘The property needs massive improvement we booked for 2 nights and arrived at around 7.30pm we left the property early next morning and booked another accommodation the property suffers from damp and smell of damp upstairs and damp on the walls and ceiling no smoke alarms fitted although the owner has since message and said there is one on the stairs which is was not visible and did not see the balcony was dirty full of cobwebs same as the patio door leading out also the second balcony was worse and the only way to access that balcony was through a window halfway up the steep stairs and the second balcony looked like the metal was rotten and looked unsafe cooker hood was really dirty the central heating system is faulty had go into the bedroom upstairs to the boiler and switch it on and off the shower was not working properly took ages to get any hot water the kitchen cupboards has been hand painted but only one coat outside some sockets were not working the property looks very run down was not worth the money we paid for the 2 nights as could not stay another night and cost a extra £272 for accommodation for the remaining night i have shared some photos booking. com will not let me upload all’

‘Likes: The cottage was lovely inside a real home from home my favourite part was the balcony just off the kitchen where you could hear the river running it was so relaxing. There was a lovely Chinese takeaway just down the road Dislikes: There were no restaurants in the village which was a bit of a disappointment.’

‘Likes: Beautiful view over the river. Short walk into main street with shops and restaurants. Dislikes: The property needs a bit of maintenance and a good clean. Very wet while we stayed and there was a number of water leaks, lots of cobwebs and dust and dog hair on blankets. Beds were very uncomfortable and double bed had a valance instead of a fitted sheet. Towels in bathroom were wet. Shower struggled to maintain heat. Stairs are incredibly steep, you could not stay there unless you were very able bodied. Front of property needs lots of TLC. Parking is out on the street away from the property if you can get a spot. Not really close to lake district main spots.’

‘Likes: Gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis, gute Einrichtung, schöne Lage am Fluss. Die Balkone luden zum Verweilen ein. Hunde fühlten sich ebenfalls sehr wohl. Dislikes: Matratzen der Betten waren etwas durchgelegen, müssten mal ausgetauscht werden. Die Treppen in den 1. und 2. Stock waren sehr steil, daher nicht geeignet für gehbehinderte Menschen.’

Good Wi-Fi reception across the whole property Settee and chairs were comfortable Dislikes: Mattresses on bed were poor quality Stair carpet had grippers poking through Bathroom was missing tiles Sink still had original label on it Lots of mould on the tiles and velux windows The house smelt musty and there was lots of signs of where water has ingressed The outside of the property lots of paint flaking off The rain water pipe has a hole in it and might be the cause of the water ingression The overall finish of the property was very poor The top bedroom did not have a blind on the velux The shower was unable to maintain a constant temperature The bathroom door would not open fully catching on the floor tiles’

‘Likes: The location was good. We weren’t far from any of our chosen locations. We loved that we could fish from the balcony. Dislikes: When we arrived we discovered it wasn’t the cleanest. Nothing towards the owner as it wasn’t his fault. He kindly offered to spot us for a takeaway as an apology that his cleaner didn’t clean well. Again nothing against the owner. The toilet downstairs needs a blind as there was people camping in the field in front. So it needs privacy. The stairs are very steep. Not recommended for elderly or leg problems. A couple of the stairs have sharp bits so you will prick your toe on it and it’ll bleed. The shower upstairs turns off mid shower and it takes a while for the hot water too turn up. Low water pressure too. Pictures show welcome packs bottle of wine. There wasn’t anything like that when we turned up as they no longer provide that. Broadband works one minute then stops the next. Tv in the kids room but no TV in the master room.’

‘We had a few issues with our stay, but the host was on the end of the phone whenever we called him and tried his best to sort things out. Some images of the outside of the house would have been helpful as it is on the side of a road which was unexpected. The stairs were also a suprise as they were very steep, not suitable for dogs, young children or the elderly. Maybe this just needs to be clearer on the description.’

‘Likes: The cottage was cozy, well equipped with everything needed for a short or long stay, even a dishwasher. The two balcony’s over hanging the river are to die for, the views and river life are amazing, we sat watching the river roll by for hours of an evening and watched heron, salmon and even a sneaky mink trying to catch his evening meal. Watching the bats at sunset from the upper balcony was amazing, so agile and silent. Loved the fishing theme throughout the cottage, a framed copy of the book made famous in the yellow pages advert years ago “fly fishing by J, R, Hartley” fantastic touch! Our children loved feeding the ducks from the lower balcony every morning and even named them all. Egremont is a lovely town, with all the shops needed for our stay. Egremont castle ruins are just a few mins stroll down the lane, kids loved it there. Gorgeous st bees coast less than 10 mins away and the awesome Wastewater lake about 25 mins away.. both are a must if you visit the Lake District. Allready planning our return visit before we even got home. 10/10 fabulous Dislikes: Nothing to dislike,’
