Description

A pleasant end-terrace 19th century cottage, on the outskirts of the popular market town of Haltwhistle. Fully refurbished and redecorated, this Haltwhistle cottage offers comfortable and well-equipped accommodation, including a fully-fitted kitchen, cosy sitting room, a patio garden ideal for enjoying an evening tipple. This welcoming Haltwhistle cottage is in the heart of Hadrian's Wall Country, which offers excellent walking and fishing (there is fishing on the North Tyne two minutes from the property), along with Vindolanda, a fascinating Roman fort lying to the south of Hadrian's Wall. Your Haltwhistle cottage is also located on the spectacular burn gorge walk, which leads to Hadrian's Wall approximately a mile away. With the pubs and shops of Haltwhistle almost on the doorstep, as well as easy access to attractions such as the castles and beaches of the Heritage Coast, or the gardens and castle at Alnwick, this Haltwhistle cottage makes a truly great base for a family holiday. Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 1203 and Ref. 10490 to accommodate 12.
The small market town of Haltwhistle is a vibrant place, offering a wide range of shops and other amenities. Home to The Black Bull â an old fashioned pub, serving quality food and real ale â the village is a welcoming place to return to following a day of walking, pony trekking or cycling. With the Pennine Way and other great cycle routes and bridleways nearby, it's easy to enjoy this stunning scenery, which boasts dramatic castles, surging rivers and beautiful forests. Those interested in the country's history are sure to enjoy a visit to one of the best preserved stretches of Hadrian's Wall, only a mile north of the village, and with an ongoing dig on the site of Vindolanda, it's easy to get in touch with the nation's past. There is also a regular train and bus service to Newcastle and Carlisle.

‘Property was well located for visiting hadrians wall. But their were a few issues we found aswell. Firstly we thought the property was tired and hadn't been looked after well and wasn't well reflected in the photos which seemed very out of date. Secondly the king size bed had old faded torn stained bedding and un-ironed. Along with this there was a second uncovered mattress put on one of the beds. Which we found out was simply from another property and because they had no were else to put it decided to chuck it onto the king-size bed which lead to a 3 bad night's sleep untell we were told the story and could take it off if we wish. Thirdly when we arrived the property had been cleaned but not to a great standard and we had to hover around ourselves so we felt comfortable (I would like to say we didn't ring the owner that night about the cleaning as we got in late and were tired from a long drive and didn't want to be disturbed). All in all I felt although me and my group had a good holiday the only point that let it down was the accomadation and wasn't worth the price paid.’

‘We were met by the owner who had left us a bottle of wine and strawberries and cream as a welcome. The property was a good size for the four adults using it. It was all kitted out with everything one required. The location of the property was perfect for walking Hadrian's wall. There were also numerous other spectacular walks locally. The village of Haltwhistle was a small United Nations. We met and spoke to people from various parts of America, Holland, Germany as well as others from various parts of England. I would recommend the Black Bull pub in the centre of the town for a great atmosphere, different types of ales and good pub grub. The village has all the amenities you would require and there are plenty of takeaway shops nearby. The main town of Hexham is only 13 miles away if you require the major store chains, M&S, Waitrose, Tesco, Lidl, Next etc.’

‘We arrived quite late in the evening having had a long drive to get there and were very pleased with what we found. The cottage is kitted out to be a real home from home with every need catered for. The wine, chocolates, biscuits and milk were a really nice thought. Plenty of large fluffy towels, freesat tv, dvd player, dvds, books, log effect fire and comfy chairs to relax. The bed was extremely comfy and was hard to leave in the mornings. The area was stunning and even I managed a healthy walk each day. The food in the Black Bull is not to be missed as is the warm welcome:) I would definitely recommend this cottage. The landlady is very friendly. BTW the kettle is in the cupboard above the cooker:)’
