‘Lovely cottage - very compact but great design so room for everything without feeling cramped. In a small village with 2 great pubs - the Towpath Inn and Corn Exchange, the first of these just a few yards from the front door. Great location for exploring the Brecon beacons - loads to do and see in beautiful countryside. No private outside space but close to the canal so ideal for dog walking, We had a great week there.’

‘An excellent and well presented modern holiday stable, which includes a fully fitted kitchen, central and under floor heating, as well as one of the best internet connections I’ve found in the middle of the countryside. This stable is in a group of other buildings, some of which also look to be rented as holiday locations, these buildings are located off a private road which leads off a single track country lane. Having said all of that my wife’s heart sank when she realised the size of the location (on first sight), although nothing has been done to hide the fact that this is in my view an extremely compact location, its only when you see the place you realise how compact it is. Some examples are, closing the doors in the bedroom is hard as if the bed is moved or even if the duvet is hanging of the end of the bed. In both bathrooms the sink is so small and there is an awkwardly placed shelf above the sink making it extremely hard to brush your teeth. One item which was not on the pictures is the bin in the kitchen, which as all the upstairs rooms are merged it’s like having a kitchen bin in your kitchen, dining room and sitting room. I think this is due to the very compact nature of the stable. Personally, we found it hard for 3 people, and in my view if the upstairs and downstairs were swapped (like a traditional location) and there was only one bedroom for two, this would be a much better offering. Also, with the bedroom upstairs you would not get up and the first thing you see in the morning is another building (which I think was also rented). The natural views from this location are stunning and it’s a shame they can’t be fully appreciated. This would also reduce the chance of waking people up if someone is walking around upstairs. We knew there was no fan, so we bought our own, however we had difficulty finding somewhere to put it, again due to space issues. There are a few minor maintenance issues which I’m sure the owners will fix, for example if you flush the toilet sometimes it makes a strange noise which you can hear everywhere until its flushed again, and the only way to turn the tv on and off is via the main switch as the button on the remote does not appear to work. It’s a relatively short trip to the coast road where you can quickly get to all the local amenities. My personal view, I always headed for the main road first and tried not to cut through Sidbury, as this minimises the risk of having to reverse up single country lanes. Lastly the family who own the locations seem very friendly and helpful.’

‘We received a lovely welcome at the Old Stable, and were amazed at how every detail in the lovely converted barn was catered for. There were delicious welsh cakes, bathroom 'bits' and even a TV guide to make us feel at home. Wolfscastle is a lovely rural location, and the Pembrokeshire National Park only a 25 minutes easy drive away at most. Being so central in Pembrokeshire, you could easily get to any part of the coastal park, South, West or North. All had something fantastic to offer, including dog friendly beaches, except in some cases May - Sept. As dog lovers, the cottage owners are full of good advice on this subject and many others. Also there are towns with much to offer for everyone; St David's with its art, crafts and Cathedral, Narberth with some very classy shops and cafes. We particularly enjoyed our trip to the 'Creativity Cafe' there. 'The Bazaar' salvage and antiques yard also had lots of goodies to browse. Newport was another gem, with wonderful coastal views and some intriguing shops too, including the PWNC Bike Cafe with lots of veggie / vegan options and the best bacon sandwich ever! All in all it made for a wonderful holiday, with plenty of inspiration for another visit.’

‘Our stay at The Old Stable @ New House Farm Cottages was amazing Cheryl and her family were absolutely brilliant. We stayed for Christmas 23rd to 27th Dec 2018. We chose this cottage for the lovely countryside location and proximity to Haverfordwest where we have friends and family. The location is also brilliant for trips to some of the amazing beaches and of course City of St David. Cheryl contacted us prior to our arrival welcoming us to the forthcoming stay. She advised about arrival times and was so kind to offer to decorate the cottage for Christmas (which we thought was a lovely kind gesture) which was tastefully decorated and made our Christmas that but more special. She offered to help us with anything prior to our arrival and answered a few queries we had about towels and bedding and HDMI connections so that we could bring our NOW TV:-) On arrival we found a selection of gifts for us (including Christmas crackers which we had forgot to bring!) and some fresh milk in the fridge which made settling in with so much easier. We were able to bring our dogs which was a HUGE bonus for us. The farm had plenty of space for small walks so that dogs can relieve themselves (whilst kept on a lead at all times as there were other pets around and the proximity to a working farm which is well justified) and the location of the cottage is relation to some great country and coastal walks is amazing. Which of course is why we were here with our dogs to enjoy the walking. The cottage was spotlessly clean and well stocked with everything you needed including little touches like a touch for walking the dogs in the dark! There was a lovely log burning fire with a generous supply of woods and scented kindling. Additionally wood was available for a small charge. The cottage has free view with plenty of channels, but as it was Christmas we wanted to bring our NOW TV and were able to hook up to the Wifi to stream this. The facilities include a laundry which we made use of saving on washing cloths when we got home, again another great benefit was we could hit the ground running on our return. There was also a hose so that we could wash down the dogs after walks. This was an amazing place for us to stay and we look forward to booking this cottage again in 2019.’

‘We both had a most enjoyable and relaxing time at this peaceful cottage surrounded by the beautiful Devon countryside. Our dog enjoyed the local walks through the woodland and Bridle ways. The cottage had everything you could need and the beds were so comfortable. The Wifi was good. A vase of flowers to welcome us along with milk, tea, coffee and biscuits! Sitting outside at night we heard owls calling to each other which was lovely. This cottage is an ideal base to go to Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Beer, Lyme Regis, Honiton and the nearest village Sidbury where the local pub was very friendly and served good food. Further on the Hare and Hounds did the best carvery, we ate their twice! We hope to return soon.’

‘When we arrived we had trouble wondering if we could park the car, then guessing if we were in the right place or not. It was like clockwork orange trying to find the key box on the wall... We got in to the building and couldn’t believe how small it was. The table still had ring and glass stains on it. We had to fix the toilet seat. In no way were we made to feel welcome. It was cold, expensive and not dog friendly at all. I do not recommend this to anybody.’

‘The location of the old stable was exactly what we were looking for to visit my mum in a care home in Seaton 2-3 times a year. The rental was well equipped, very comfortable especially the beds and had everything we were looking for in a rental. However what let it down for us was cleaning and maintenance issues which I bought to the attention of the letting agency, Helpful Holidays, along with a picture to verify this.We stayed there once before and highlighted some of these issues on our previous visit, Helpful Holidays assured us they would be rectified for our next visit, unfortunately this didn't happen and we had further issues on our second visit. It seemed the most important concern was that we had offended the owner. In our opinion the property could do with a deeper clean on a regular basis We paid money to stay at this property and would have expected a higher standard. We didn't ask for anything back but would at least have expected a customer focused response. We wouldn't rent here again and have asked to be removed from Helpful Holidays mailing list due to their disappointing response to our complaint.’

‘Nice, private location at the back of owner's cottage. If you're looking for somewhere quiet the Old Stable makes good sense. That said, we felt that the accommodation was rather cramped (two adults and a Labrador), especially for a 7 night stay. The two main problems for us were the flight of 6 stone steps up to the cottage. On our arrival I slipped up on them and hurt my arm - this was because they were carpeted with wet leaves. The other issue was the WiFi - the connection was so poor that we simply had to give up. Sorry to say that we will not be returning to the Old Stable. If however you're the type of traveller who prefers their own company this may be for you but we certainly wouldn't recommend it for small families or those with mobility issues’

‘Booked this cottage in February 2016 on the description written on Sykes cottages, which we have found to be misleading. We have been told by Sykes that the information was supplied by the owners. Firstly we were greeted by a shut gate despite the owners knowing what time we where arriving, then shown to our parking space outside the cottage wall. We were taken into the cottage for a tour of what was what and where, this was read front a list that the owner had because there was to much to remember (not sure how we where suppose to). Finally we where told about a slug infestation, and to make sure that we didn't leave any food stuffs laying around as it attracts them. Next the electric central heating is no more than posh oil filled radiators with a complex timer and temp setting which even the owner had to alter using a manual. Total waste of time as they where only there as background heating, the main heat source was an 8kw log burner, which even when closed to the maximum damping was still over powering. As for "some traffic noise" the cottage is situated on a main road which takes all traffic to Mold over 14ft 6ins high, this is 24/7. As the main property houses b and b guests the car park is outside the old stable cottage, so you have guests in and out early in the morning and late at night plus the entrance is along the a passage that backs onto the bedroom. As the owner's keep chickens and ducks on the property you would expect a chance of vermin, but to see 2 black rats chasing each other around the owner's garden and to have our terrier chase a Brown rat from the cottage front door gave my wife nightmares, as she is petrified of rats, but I saw no signs of baiting. There are several other points of a problematic nature but you can make up your own mind if you continue to book. We will not be returning not even if it was free.’

‘The Old Stables is well located for Sherborne town itself, shops and supermarkets, and also close to the Old Castle and New Castle, with plenty of walking space as well, particularly convenient if you have a dog, as we did. It was well heated and private, something we count on. However, we have been to many holiday cottages over the years and, although The Old Stables has sufficient to put you up for a week, we were very disappointed in the general standard and condition of it. If you have any mobility problems then this is not the cottage for you. It is accessed up steep stone steps and the main bedroom is situated in the loft space of the property, requiring a slow climb up very steep stairs. This is not a place for those experiencing hip or knee problems. The cottage is 'dog friendly', which means you can expect that the cottage will be suitable to bring your pet. If you are in a strange house, your beloved pet will no doubt want to spend the night time with you, but if they like to 'roam' this could be dangerous, as the steps to the bedroom have big gaps that a pet could easily slip through. Similarly the bedroom has a 10 foot drop to the concrete floor of the lounge at one end, which is wide open. The condition of the cottage overall was quite poor, it is in need of a good coat of paint and a deep clean. You shouldn't have to clean the plates, cutlery and even the grill (it had fat/cheese on it) before you can use them. The single couch had the remains of crumbs of food and also (animal?) hair on the cushions, easily fixed if cleaned properly. Similarly, the bathroom was dirty, whoever cleans the property needs a word in their ear. The property is also listed as having WiFi, and when away on holiday arguably this shouldn't be an issue, but this is supplied from the owner's property and is virtually non-existent. One bar if you stand over by the garden and this drops out constantly. If listing WiFi, this should be sufficient in this day and age to use it with confidence and consistency. The Old Stables needs its own dedicated router, something that should come as standard if the property is advertised as having an Internet connection. In summary, great location with sufficient to keep you going for a week. But if you are a stickler for cleanliness and ease of use, this isn't the cottage for you.’

‘Leaving the little village of Sidbury on our way to this cottage was an experience in itself. Coming from Ontario, Canada, the tight narrow windy one-track roads were exciting not knowing hat you might meet round the next bend. The cottage was easy to find however using the directions provided. Entering the cottage, a converted barn. we were impressed with the quality of the bedrooms each with its ensuite bathroom. The cottage was also well stocked with games, books and dvd's as well as literature/brochures etc about things to do in the surrounding area. There are footpaths and bridlepaths all around. But be warned if you go down you have to come back up (hills). Good base for visiting the wonderful little towns and fishing villages. If you are from Canada or the States, driving will be a challenge with very narrow single track roads being the norm and very high hedge rows. Once you get over the fright, you will be fine. ‘A small but very well appointed cottage with everything you could need. It was exceptionally clean with very friendly owners next door if we had any questions. A great location to explore Wales and Cheshire. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it for couples without any hesitation.’

‘A convenient location for visiting Wrexham and Chester. A really clean and well decorated apartment; extremely comfortable bed, great WiFi signal, and a well equipped kitchen. I had great weather so was able to sit out in the private courtyard and watch the sunset every night whilst eating my evening meal. I had my dog with me and while she was able to jump over the courtyard fence, there is a second fence around the parking area and outer garden which my dog could not get through, so she was safe from the road. Parking is off the road with room to turn the car around so you can pull out onto the road forwards (no need to back out). The cottage interior looks just like the photos, but there is a nice little garden/courtyard area and potted herbs that aren't shown in the photos.’

‘A very warm welcome from the owner. The Old Stable was well furnished and spotlessly clean. Very comfortable bed and chairs. Lovely shower and thick fluffy towels. A welcome pack with lots of goodies was a lovely touch. Decorated with a Christmas tree and other items, it looked beautiful. Lovely log burner and we were given a large bag of logs with the owners compliments. Would recommend to friends and look forward to return visit.’

‘Where to start. Firstly there is the location lovely quiet country lane, very quiet. You will be greeted with the warmest of welcomes. Lovely couple who really do care and what their guests to have the best time ever. Greeted at the gate nothing to much trouble. Shown around the cottage which was nothing more than 5 star, there is nothing you will want for here. I don’t think I have ever stayed somewhere so clean a proper little home from home. Fresh flowers, welsh cakes, amazing fluffy towels everything you could hope for. Well done Cheryl and Paul you have a lovely approach to your guests nothing is too much trouble we will be back for definite. The area is amazing; we went to cycle and cycle we did. Very changeling cycling but well worth it the scenery is stunning cant believe we have not been here before.’

‘The cottage was of the highest standard. Everything you could need was provided. Little touches like fresh flowers, cake and refreshments were there on arrival for us. The owners wife was a kind caring lady who only wanted us to be happy she went of of her way to help us find places which were easy accessable for my disabled husband. On many occasions opened the gate and assisted parking which was right outside our. The cottage was situated in a courtyard with a good size garden at the end, ideal for active children and dogs.’
