Description

Llanbedr 0.6 miles. Plas Gwynfryn is a magnificent and imposing Edwardian country house set in an 8-acre estate which is situated in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. A holiday home of true distinction and character that is a fine example of the arts and crafts architecture, this cottage is perfect for a large family celebration or for groups of friends, and was featured in Country Life property review in November 2011. Plas Gwynfryn has been lovingly renovated to successfully combine its many period features with contemporary living and has retained a wealth of original Edwardian features, such as oak floors, extensive wood panelling, an impressive staircase, stone framed windows and many period furnishings. From first entering Plas Gwynfryn's oak panelled reception hall, you know you are about to experience a truly special cottage. With eight charming bedrooms, all boasting uniquely styled beds and decor, four of which have en-suite bathrooms, as well as spectacular mountain or sea views from all of the rooms, this is a holiday home to remember. With four woodburners in the downstairs rooms, this cottage is warm and welcoming. Cook sumptuous family meals in the well-equipped kitchen and then sit with friends in the charming dining room before retiring to the sitting room to while away the evening over a nightcap. Outside, the extensive landscaped grounds and enclosed courtyard are perfect for dining alfresco and having family fun. As the cottage stands in an elevated position, you can enjoy spectacular views over the Artro Forest, the Rhinog mountain range and Moelfre mountain as well as experiencing spectacular stargazing on a clear night. In the grounds, numerous paths wind their way through the natural relief and large variety of flora and fauna - perfect for a relaxing stroll after lunch. Located on the outskirts of the delightful village of Llanbedr, this wonderful cottage is situated just 4 miles from the UNESCO world heritage site of Harlech Castle, the internationally-known Royal St. David's links golf course and Harlech's wonderful 6-mile long sandy beach. The surrounding area is renowned for its spectacular mountain and coastal scenery, all of which provide magnificent walking, mountain biking, a variety of water sports and huge sandy beaches for family fun. Penrhyn Slate Quarry, located near Bethesda in North Wales, is home to Zip World Velocity 2, the fastest zip line in the world and the longest in Europe. This beautiful holiday cottage provides a rare opportunity for families and friends to experience something special; a wonderful character property in a stunning setting, in one of the UK's most beautiful regions.
The village of Llanbedr boasts shops and a pub and is set next to the River Artro. Harlech is a small town situated only three miles from Llanbedr and offers a 13th century castle, Royal St. David's golf course, shops and restaurants. Also within driving distance are Barmouth, the Snowdonia National Park and Cardigan Bay. Penrhyn Slate Quarry, located near Bethesda in North Wales, is home to Zip World Velocity 2, the fastest zip line in the world and the longest in Europe.

‘I booked the house with my partner and 10 friends to celebrate my 50th birthday and had a wonderful time in this beautiful house and grounds making happy memories. The house is close to the lovely village and beach and a short walk from 3 pubs. The house is full of character, tastefully decorated, comfortable and clean rooms. Kitchen fully equipped and spacious pantry. Bedrooms spacious, bathrooms lovely with plenty of room to find your own space. The extensive private gardens and grounds are beautifully kept. The house is well maintained and well equipped. We were very well looked after by Chris and Paddy, who with their team prepared, cooked and served a superbly delicious home cooked meal to top restaraunt standard. They dressed the table with flowers and herbs and it could not have been a more perfect setting for the unexpected added surprise of a marriage proposal. This was kindly followed the next morning, with a bottle of fizz and card from Caroline the owner. We laughed, we cried and had so much fun at Plas Gwynfryn. It is a special week I will never forget, in a beautiful setting with loved ones. We all looked forward to the week and it certainly exceeded our expectations. We will return. x’

‘We stayed as a group of friends including 10 adults and 8 children. The house is fantastic and it was a real pleasure to stay in such an impressive home. The house and gardens are huge and very well kept; despite there being 18 of us we never felt on top of one another. The children had a fantastic time exploring the gardens and made the lounge their own den! We also travelled with two dogs who loved the courtyard and gardens. All in all a great house in a fantastic location - less than 5 minutes walk from local pubs, restaurants and shops.’

‘This is a fantastic place as a base to explore this great corner of Wales. Locally there are a couple of pubs, about five minute walk away and a little supermarket in the village, take a torch though as when it's dark here it is dark! It is a great setting for a house. The grounds are lovely, huge lawns and some great rock garden areas to explore, the dogs we had with us were in heaven. The house looks amazing from the outside. It's hard to be too critical of such a grand house but it could be taken to another level, inside it just wasn't as grand as the outside! It was a little tired and would need some money spending on it, soft furnishings, sofas, new carpets, which were getting thread bare on stares. A jacuzzi and a good sound system would be great additions. The dining area also smelt of cigarette smoke but it was certainly large enough for us all. The Wifi never worked for anyone, good in some ways I suppose, all of us love a bit of surfing, it did of course make us more sociable though! In a rental like this all of the rooms really should have ensuites and downstairs another bathroom would be a good idea. The kitchen also needs a bit of attention, it wasn't the sexy new kitchen most of us love. It has two ovens, which were fine but the fridge was poor as was the sink, they don't belong in such a great building. That said it was full of character and charm, we had a superb time and don't let my comments put you off staying here or having your wedding, it was great.’

‘Fabulous cottage with huge space and amazingly beautiful and enormous lawns with lush green and well maintained grass. The kitchen is well equipped with all the necessary crockery and the space for breakfast as well as the dinning hall is very spacious with fireplace and beautiful views of gardens outside. The bathrooms and shower are absolutely fantastic. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to go back again - hopefully!.’

‘We booked the property for an extended family get together for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. The kitchen was really well stocked making it easy to cater for large family meals, the bedrooms all beautifully decorated and comfortable and the gardens were just amazing for games and wandering around. It did get a little cool in the evenings so we made good use of the wood burning stoves in the main entrance hall and lounge. A lovely place to spend time’

‘This place was an amazing find for a family celebration. The house is so well equipped and pretty much everything you could need to cater for 10 in the kitchen. The gardens were absolutely spectacular - and we all enjoyed exploring them (there are steep areas that would not be good for anyone wobbly on their feet). However there are also great expanses of beautiful, lawned areas. Minutes to the beautiful beaches. We had an absolutely amazing week and I have no doubt we will be back again very soon. Was such a breath taking property and even better because we could take our dogs too.’

‘Plas Gwynfryn is a large house that accommodated our family perfectly. The dinning room and lounge were amazing and the children loved the freedom to roam the house. The room next to the kitchen served us well for breakfasts and lunch and doubled as a small playroom. The garden is spectacular with extensive lawns and winding paths around trees and shrubbery.’

‘14-17 family members including an infant and a few stayed only an evening stayed at this beautiful well kept manor. We stayed over the Easter holiday and had a truly wonderful time. The kitchen was well equipped to handle large meals for everyone as well as the large dining room table where everyone could eat together. The gardens are beautiful and we spend many sunny days (yes sun!) outside playing cricket and giranemo (giant jenga). In the evenings we would play games in the large family room. Everyone had plenty of space and they were so accommodating to my infant supplying us with highchair and pack and play. The bathrooms are lovely and you are within walking distance to town. This manor and the keeper, Caroline was absolutely amazing. Being able to stay in such a beautiful, loved home with such a large group was wonderful. There are several trails and hikes right off the property and space everywhere. I would absolutely recommend Plas Gwynfryn to anyone looking to have a comfortable, top notch stay in Wales/Gwynedd. And a bonus, Castle Harlech is very close and so worth the trip!’

‘Fantastic gardens, beautiful and lots of space for the children to play (and the dog!). The house has such character and beauty. It's a joy even to just stand at the sink and do the dishes looking out on the lawn! Very relaxing and a beautiful location. There is a fantastic view from every window. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The interconnecting Family room was of particular use to us. You can keep the children close without disturbing them when you go to bed. Perfect. Loved cooking on an AGA for the first time but for choice there is also a gas cooker, which is useful and also WiFi was very useful. Loved the place. Want to go back!’
