‘Place is great. Really nice conversion of the original buildings. All amenities thought of. Everything worked. Parking area always had spaces available. The area itself has loads of restaurant choices. In the evening it feels very safe lots of families walking around using the restaurants. 34 bus from town will also drop you off right outside Royal William Yard. The only negative I can think of is the flat was quite hot and couldn't really cool it down as windows are small. But a decent fan is provided in the living room. And we did stay just after 1 of the heat waves so I'm guessing it was a lot of residual heat from that. Would highly recommend.’

‘Lovely property but things needs maintenance. Sofa the cushions that are supposed to pull up for head support, hinges broken and wood broken. Blinds in double bedroom unable to close and people can look in. Kitchen cupboards the plinth underneath just lying on the floor. No milk for when we arrived. There were no instructions for how to use the shower. Especially as it is not cheap to rent.’

‘Beautiful accommodation, spacious and a little different in layout to your standard hotel rooms. The whole layout is unique with being in a fort as such. Unfortunately we only had 1 night here, as it was very different, but a pleasant place to be. My only concern was actually finding our accommodation on arrival. There are no signs or anything to look for on arrival. Then when we tried to ring, it went to message bank and no one returned our call. That was disappointing. Luckily we found a more than helpful traffic or parking attendant, who went out of his way to help us, otherwise we may never have found our rooms.’

‘Beautiful apartment sited in a gorgeous area. We were very comfortable and this apartment had everything we needed, after a long drive from Newcastle we were able to make a hot drink as soon as we got there. There was loads of space and it was very clean and homely our only problem was the toilet didn't flush properly. We had a lovely stay and would definately use this apartment again. I would highly recommend this accommodation. Thank you so much for the hospitality.’

‘Just coming to the end of a lovely stay at 10 Clarence. Beautifully presented apartment that was really well equipped. In a. Beautiful location and so peaceful. I stayed here whilst visiting Plymouth University with my daughter and as two women alone we felt very safe and secure. The restaurants here at William Yard are lovely and all very welcoming and also popular. If I had any negative points it would be that there is no little shop nearby but I can honestly say that is the ONLY negative point and that's no great deal. The bus service is brilliant and so are the taxi companies. I would efinitely come back here.’

‘Our stay was comfortable and cosy. The flat was spacious and modern. The location is great. Phil was very helpful. Some small details need to be attended to within the flat: Some of the blinds are difficult to get to go all the way down which is important for privacy because the flat is on pavement level. The cold tap in the bathroom is difficult to use and we were covered in cold water a couple of times. The plug in the bath is broken. Other than those small details - it was a very pleasant stay.’

‘Nice apartment great location with very nice bars and restaurants on the doorstep, great views out over the sound to Mountbatten and Bovisand etc. Apartment was on the ground floor with big windows, so blinds had to be used, which were a bit awkward. ‘Very 'on trend' apartment but lacking comfort. We were six adults and the pull out sofa in lounge was only suitable for children. Bathroom radiator position right next to toilet no controls and extremely hot, very dangerous. Seating in lounge area very uncomfortable one of the sofas was supported by a yellow pages phone directory and a next catalogue, area very much a concrete jungle with no outlook from appartment, disappointed would not return’

‘We were visiting our sister who lives in Royal William Yard and so this flat was perfect! We love the area and the flat was very stylish, the décor of a high standard and very comfortable. Just a few minor things that need to be sorted including the fan oven which did not work and the drain in the wash basin in the bathroom which was slow to clear. The bed nearest the door in the twin room needs to be replaced as the slats broke every time I lay on it (and I wouldn't class myself as being that heavy!). However, I would say it was very good value for the three of us for 3 nights, and much better than staying in a hotel.’

‘Didn't know what to expect from an old dock complex and being out of central Plymouth, without a car. So what a great surprise it was to be staying in an historic building and with many others that provided a good choice of dining options and being right next to the open sea. Our apartment was spacious that had modern kitchen, bathroom and bedroom facilities supported by a competent House Manager, (Phil) at hand for help if required. Travel to Plymouth City was so easy, with a city bus stop at the entrance to Royal William Yard and buses every 10/20 minutes taking just 10 minutes into the city. Even nearer we also had the option of using the dock based ferry taking us via a scenic route via The Hoe to the Barbican with its short walk into the City. Ferry boats left and returned at hourly intervals throughout the day for just £3. A taxi to the station was just £5. If there was a downside, then without the car, m our domestic shopping was limited to basic choices at two quite small corner shops about 10 minutes walk and no great problem with fine weather.’

‘The apartment is well appointed and in a great location. The welcome was warm and knowledgable. We didn't use them but there are plentiful bars and restaurants within a five minute walk. Two things; the first was that the bin wasn't emptied after the last tenant, as such a rotten curry smell was wafting around the apartments. The second is more of a watch out - you need to make sure you have registered your car prior to arrival, otherwise you might get a ticket. Overall a nice place in a great location. We would stay again if we had the need.’

‘The security man was helpful and showed us to the apartment. It is a little noisy in the apartment as you could hear people talking outside due to the old windows but guess this is a listed building. The apartment was well equipped. The bed in the main bedroom is too low which may not be ideal for everyone when you are letting a place and average for comfort. The bathroom needs a make over smelt damp when we first went in and there is no extractor fan. The bath had also taken several knocks where the the shower head has obviously been dropped, may be a fixed shower head would prevent this. The towels and sheets were nice and clean. The shower did not work so the maintenance man was called who tried to fix it the next day but unable to locate the correct size washer. There was some rubbish under the bed so this area needs to be cleaned a little more better. Kitchen well equipped.’

‘10 Clarence in Royal William Yard is a stunning apartment, upmarket, comfortable and has great facilities. The mixture of textures in the apartment, with stone, wood and steel, and the high ceilings and stunningly massive doors make the overall look of the place incredible. The beds are very comfortable, the shower spot on, and the facilities include all the extras one might need, for example a washing machine and ironing board. Royal William Yard is beautiful, steeped in history, with lots of restaurants and pubs. We missed out on going to the wine bar unfortunately, but we will definitely be back. We enjoyed the half-hour ferry trip to The Barbican at £3 each - a lovely boat trip:) A tact from the Barbican to Royal William Yard on a Saturday night at 1030pm was only £7. I can't recommend the place enough. A lot of "oooh's and ahh's" when we walked in from everyone, and a lovely place to stay.’

‘The above survey responses will indicate and over all very satisfying stay at the Royal William Yard, however, as a constructive criticism category I would offer the following comments: 1) The bathroom is a potentially a rather dangerous as far as the shower is concerned, the shower itself when working is fine, but the shower head seems to be a poor fit placed in the clip to allow for hands free operation, as on more that one the fitting fell out and nearly fell on the head occasion of the person using it and being so heavy it could have inflicted a heavy blow causing serious injury. 2) The fittings themselves seem to be inadequate to the task as it was impossible to swap from the bath to the shower mode due to the failure of a washer and the plumber had to be called in to handcraft a replacement, due to the fact that there no washers of the correct specifications readily available locally, but he was unavailable until the next morning, so were were unable to take a shower on the day we arrived from London, no major drama, we coped, but it is something to reconsider for the future as the plumber mentioned that this was an ongoing problem. 3) From a safety point of view, some consideration to installing hand rails to allow access for easier access to the bath, which is high of the ground and the potential for a fall, especially among the elderly is quite high, with nothing to hang on to while accessing the bath, the drain plug being in the middle of the bath is a potential trip hazard as well. All of this comments are made as constructive and helpful recommendations and viewed as comparisons of other accommodations and safety standards and possible legal challenges by some future customer should they be injured as a result of the type of fittings installed; they should not be viewed as mindless or unnecessary complaints. The location was outstanding and the accommodation was otherwise excellent.’

‘We loved the apartment from the minute we set foot in the door and the location is fantastic. As Plymouthians who moved away, we needed somewhere to stay with our family group while seeing grandparents etc. This was perfect and we were able to relax and enjoy our surroundings as well as do all the visiting, without taking over their homes! The walk around Devil's Point and Stonehouse was refreshing and and beautiful, we even discovered things we had not known about, such as commemorative plaques of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and quotations from Sherlock Holmes inset into pavements. Just wish there had been time cross on the ferry to Mount Edgecumbe Park or walk around to Mount Wise. Next time!’

‘This is an apartment for 4 yet the refrigerator is barely a bar fridge. Parking is annoying as there are vacant parks right outside the apartment complex but we were told we had to park elsewhere and that area flooded with the rain due to inadequate drainage. Bathroom is like out of a design book of photos, but when you go to use it, the beauty is not matched by practicality. pressure is so high the basin splashes all over the user and the shower leaks all over the floor. no where to hang coats. only a very small airing rack. Lastly, there is internet in the apartment, but we are unable to use it and had to buy a month's supply from BT. everywhere else in the UK provided free internet for 3 weeks on our holiday and despite advertising claims BT hotspots are not everywhere.’
