What to see
Van Buren State Park
Van Buren is a sandy strip stretching for over a mile along the water on the shores of Lake Michigan. The park is fringed with woodland trails, picnic spots and camping grounds. Shops and restaurants can be found nearby.
South Haven Lighthouse
Look out from this thirty foot wood tower crowned with an octagonal cast iron lantern, that has provided sailors with light since the early 1870s. The lens was made by famous Parisian glassmakers Barbier and Fenestre.
Five miles of winding river rush past the lighthouse and into Lake Michigan. The Black River watershed stretches for 300 square miles and is home to a wide variety of fauna and fauna including snapping turtles.
Kal Heaven Trail
Follow this winding crushed limestone path connecting South Haven with Kalamazoo as it meanders through farmland, streams and rivers. Trails for horse riding, skiing and biking are all found along its length.
