Best Cycling Destinations in Spain

The beauty of Spain as a cycling destination is the ability to choose areas of the country based on your cycling preferences. If you are up for a challenge, consider the mountains of the Picos de Europa. Beginners or family riders can enjoy the areas around Burgos and Leon, with flat plains as far as the eye can see. Wherever you choose, you are guaranteed to have a cycle trail close at hand.

  • 1. Camino de Santiago

This centuries-old pilgrim route runs from the French border at Roncesvalles and winds through the north of Spain to its destination at Santiago de Compostela. Most people walk the Camino but it's also possible to cycle the entire path.

  • 2. Costa Blanca

The Mediterranean coast between Calpe and Denia is a hugely popular area with cyclists, so if you puncture a tyre or need a replacement saddle, there is no shortage of shops to help. The appeal of this area is the mountains and coast. Cycling up the mountains might be a challenge but the fast rides back down towards the coast are more than worth the effort.

  • 3. North Coast

Spain's green northern area is still relatively undiscovered and perfect for exploring on two wheels. Spend your days admiring coastal views, navigating your way around tiny fishing villages or just relaxing on a deserted stretch of beach.
