December Holidays in Tenerife

This breathtaking moonscape is a World Heritage Site, with a crater-like surface having been formed from volcanic activity. The national park is dominated by Mount Teide, a snow-capped dormant volcano and the highest peak in Spain. There are signposted walks and a cable car to whisk visitors to Mount Teide's peak.

The pastel-coloured mansions that line the streets of La Laguna mark it out for many as the most beautiful town in the Canaries. There are also plenty of welcoming bars and cafés in the area to make friends with locals.

This striking concrete and glass gallery in Santa Cruz was designed by the pioneering Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, also responsible for London's Tate Modern. It's ideal for a cooler day with some striking contemporary art, intriguing installations, and an excellent café just next door.

There are some great walking trails in the stunning Anaga Mountains to the northeast of the island, which are perfect for December holidays in Tenerife. The journey there, with jaw-dropping views all the way, will be more than sufficient for your scenery fix!
