How We Produced This Guide

We researched 5 different data points for popular holiday spots across the UK. All results were assigned a representative data point between 5 and 10, with 5 representing the lowest score and 10 the highest. To calculate these scores we used the following equation:

Score (i) = 5((i-min)/(max-min))+5

The price of accommodation score is based on the average cost (in GBP) for a one night stay between the 19th - 26th October 2019, taken from HomeToGo travel data.

The weather score is based on the average temperature and rainfall (in mm) in each location in the month of October. A score was assigned for both and the average of these two score taken as the final 'weather' score. Data is from the ‘Holiday Weather’ site.

The family-friendly activities and restaurant scores (medium-price range) are based on the number of these businesses in each destination listed on Tripadvisor.

Please note that these numbers were relevant as of Autumn 2019 and may change. For additional information, please contact [email protected].
