A sprawling beach resort, Dom Pedro is home to numerous courses, including the 6,750-yard Millenium track. This wooded course is ideal for shorter hitters, putting a premium on accuracy with its narrow holes.

Vale do Lobo backs onto the Atlantic Ocean and offers a couple of courses to tackle. The Ocean Course was designed by English legend Henry Cotton, while the Royal Course is a newer addition, making the most of the resort's craggy coastline. One of the oldest courses in Portugal, this layout has matured beautifully. Offering a 6,780-yard length, with imaginative use of the sloping terrain, it's a testing course - and a visually appealing setting to show off your golfing skills.

Home to three courses, this venue has been widely acclaimed, winning multiple Golf Digest awards. Layouts include designs by ex-Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, and there's a TaylorMade Performance Centre to custom fit clubs and consult the experts.

A more relaxing challenge, Villa Sol offers a trio of nine-hole courses. All are sculpted to suit the undulating terrain, with devious bunkers and water in strategic locations. But there's no sense of unfairness here. A great test for intermediate players who back their accuracy.
